Resin Bound Driveways in Somerset, Bristol & Devon

A resin bound driveway gives you a smooth, seamless, permeable surface that looks premium from day one and stays low-maintenance for years. We install resin bound properly — starting with the base underneath, not just the finish on top.

Why people choose it

  • Smooth, seamless finish with no loose stones
  • Permeable — rainwater drains through the surface rather than pooling
  • Wide choice of natural aggregate colours and blends
  • Weed-resistant when laid on a properly prepared base
  • UV-stable resin available so the colour holds in sunlight
  • Low maintenance — an occasional sweep and rinse keeps it looking new

Problems it solves

  • Cracked, sunken or tired concrete and tarmac drives
  • Gravel that scatters across the lawn and gets stuck in tyres
  • Puddles and standing water after heavy rain
  • Weeds pushing through joints in old paving
  • A dated frontage that lets the rest of the house down

What's included

When you compare quotes, check what's actually in them. Ours include the things that determine whether the job lasts:

  • Honest assessment of your existing surface — overlay or full dig-out
  • Full excavation and MOT Type 1 sub-base where required
  • Permeable base build-up where appropriate for drainage compliance
  • Solid edging restraint so the surface edge never crumbles
  • ACO channels and drainage where water needs managing
  • Recessed manhole covers for a clean, uninterrupted finish
  • Resin and aggregate mixed to the correct ratios on site
  • Hand-trowelled finish by an experienced installation team
  • Full clean-up and clear aftercare guidance

How we install it

Step 1

Assessment

We look at your existing surface, levels, drainage and access. If your current base is sound, an overlay may be possible; if not, we'll tell you straight that it needs a full dig-out — laying resin over a failing base is how driveways fail early.

Step 2

Preparation

Excavation where needed, a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, and a suitable binder course (typically open-textured tarmac or concrete). This is the part you never see and the part that matters most.

Step 3

Edging and drainage

Edging restraints are set to contain the surface, ACO channels are installed where water needs directing, and manhole covers are recessed so the finish flows over them.

Step 4

Mixing and laying

Resin and aggregate are mixed on site to the correct ratios, laid at the correct depth and hand-trowelled to a smooth, even finish.

Step 5

Curing and handover

The surface is protected while it cures — usually walkable within hours and ready for vehicles soon after. We leave the site clean and talk you through aftercare.

Ideal for

  • Driveways, paths, steps and patios of almost any shape
  • Overlays onto sound existing concrete or tarmac bases
  • Properties that need permeable, SuDS-friendly front gardens
  • Sloped drives — resin bound gives good grip when specified correctly

Options & finishes

  • A wide range of natural aggregate colours and blends
  • Contrasting borders and edge details
  • UV-stable resin for colour retention in exposed, sunny spots
  • Anti-slip additive for slopes and shaded, damp areas

Aftercare

  • Sweep occasionally and rinse with clean water
  • A light jet wash (fan nozzle, kept moving) once or twice a year
  • Treat oil spots promptly with warm soapy water
  • Avoid dragging skips, scaffold or sharp point loads across the surface

Resin Bound — your questions answered

Is resin bound permeable?

Yes — resin bound (as opposed to resin bonded) is porous, so rainwater drains through the surface into the base below. On a permeable base build-up it normally complies with front-garden planning rules without extra drainage. Where the base isn't permeable, we design in falls and ACO channels instead.

Can you lay resin over my existing driveway?

Sometimes. If your existing concrete or tarmac is sound, stable and at the right levels, an overlay can be a cost-effective option. If it's cracked, sunken or breaking up, overlaying just transfers those problems into your new surface — we'll always tell you honestly which applies.

Will the colour fade?

Standard resins can amber slightly in strong sunlight. Where colour matters — lighter blends, exposed south-facing drives — we specify UV-stable resin, which holds its colour far better. We'll recommend the right one for your job and explain the difference in cost.

Will weeds come through?

Not through a properly installed resin bound surface. Any occasional growth is surface-level — wind-blown seeds settling in dust — and sweeps or pulls away easily. It's nothing like weeds rooting up through block paving joints.

How long does installation take?

A typical overlay can be done in a day or two. A full dig-out with new sub-base usually takes around three to five days depending on size, access and drainage works. We'll give you a clear timescale with your written quote.
