At Quantock Paving Ltd, we believe a guarantee should explain exactly what is protected rather than simply displaying a number. The guarantee available depends on the type of work we carry out, the preparation underneath it and how much of the installation we control.
Qualifying full resin-bound installations can receive a 10-year Quantock Paving workmanship guarantee. Overlay, paving, tarmac, patio, repair and maintenance work has cover appropriate to the work carried out, with the exact guarantee confirmed in your written quotation.
Guarantee at a glance
These are our standard voluntary workmanship periods for new contracts from the effective date below, unless a customer-specific quotation clearly states a different term before the contract is agreed. Your quotation and guarantee certificate identify the exact cover for your project.

The written project documents control.
The customer-specific written quotation and guarantee certificate identify the exact guarantee that applies. A marketing headline does not convert an overlay, repair or maintenance visit into a 10-year full-installation guarantee.
Why the preparation underneath matters
When Quantock Paving Ltd excavates the site and installs the complete build-up, we have substantially greater control over the performance of the finished driveway. That is why qualifying complete installations can receive longer workmanship cover.
When we overlay an existing driveway, we can inspect the existing surface and decide whether we consider it suitable, but we cannot see, verify or guarantee every element beneath a structure installed by somebody else.

What is covered?
Subject to the applicable period and project specification, we will investigate defects that appear to have arisen because work performed by Quantock was not completed to the agreed specification or a reasonable workmanship standard.

A resin surface is not promised never to crack. The cause, the project specification and the parts of the build-up Quantock controlled must be assessed.

Block paving is a flexible system. Routine maintenance, including topping up jointing sand, is not normally a workmanship defect.

Falls, channels, gullies and soakaway arrangements are designed within an agreed scope; no outdoor system can be promised to prevent flooding in every rainfall or external drainage condition.
What is not covered?
Our guarantee protects against qualifying defects in the work we have carried out. It is not an insurance policy against every event that may affect an outdoor surface during its lifetime. These limits define the additional commercial cover; they do not remove statutory rights or responsibility for defective Quantock workmanship where the law makes us responsible.
The voluntary guarantee does not cover failure caused by movement, cracking, weakness, instability or latent defects in structures Quantock did not install.
This is especially relevant to overlays. It does not remove any legal responsibility Quantock may have for the work it actually undertook.
Subsidence, heave, shrinkage and other movement outside the construction Quantock controlled are not insured events under this guarantee.
Movement demonstrably caused by Quantock's own defective construction will still be assessed as a potential workmanship issue.
New or continued root growth, roots from neighbouring land, bamboo and invasive vegetation are outside voluntary cover unless specific treatment was included in the contract.
Where Quantock expressly contracted to remove roots or install a root-control system, responsibility for that agreed work remains ours.
Damage caused after completion by others is not a defect in Quantock workmanship.
Unaffected areas remain covered unless the alteration materially affects them.
Domestic driveways remain covered for normal domestic vehicle use. Damage caused by use beyond the agreed design is not included.
Impact, fire, vandalism, criminal damage, dragging heavy or sharp objects, dropping equipment and unrelated accidents are not workmanship defects.
Staining or degradation caused by contamination that is not removed reasonably promptly is outside voluntary workmanship cover.
Outdoor surfaces change appearance through sunlight, rain, frost, traffic, pollution and ordinary use. Normal cosmetic ageing is not automatically a defect.
Normal weathering will not be used to dismiss a genuine premature installation failure attributable to Quantock workmanship.
The guarantee is not flood or storm insurance. Damage caused primarily by extraordinary events is outside its scope.
Where defective Quantock workmanship, rather than the external event itself, caused the damage, the matter will still be assessed accordingly.
We can design and install falls, channels, gullies and soakaway arrangements within an agreed scope, but cannot guarantee a property will never experience surface water or flooding.
Customers should keep channels and gullies reasonably clear and arrange suitable cleaning where permeable surfaces become clogged.
No outdoor surface is permanently weed-free. Windblown seeds and organic matter can support growth on resin, paving, tarmac and patios.
Normal weed, moss, algae and lichen growth is a maintenance matter rather than an automatic workmanship defect.
Natural aggregate, stone, sandstone and manufactured paving vary between pieces and batches, while all surfaces weather over time.
The product supplied must still correspond with the agreed product, range and specification.
Concrete paving can develop temporary white deposits known as efflorescence. This naturally occurring characteristic of cement-based products normally reduces through weathering and, by itself, does not normally indicate defective installation.
Sandstone and other natural stone can contain iron spots, mineral markings, texture differences and colour variation. Completely uniform natural stone is not guaranteed.
We will make reasonable efforts to achieve an appropriate match, but existing surfaces weather and materials are produced in batches.
If the original product is unavailable, we may propose the closest reasonably available compatible alternative after discussing it with the customer.
Where a customer selects, buys or supplies materials, Quantock guarantees its installation workmanship but does not add a separate commercial promise covering that product's inherent quality, durability, colour consistency or suitability.
This does not reduce any responsibility the law places on Quantock in the particular circumstances.
If we recommend a construction method and the customer chooses a materially different or reduced specification, consequences directly caused by that choice may sit outside the additional guarantee.
This applies only where the alternative and its material risk were clearly explained and recorded in writing before work proceeded.
Repairs
If Quantock repairs 6m² of a 100m² existing driveway, the workmanship guarantee applies to the work undertaken within that 6m² repair area. It does not turn the remaining 94m² of older construction into Quantock-guaranteed work.
Reasonable care
Outdoor surfaces need proportionate maintenance. A claim may not cover deterioration caused or materially worsened by a failure to carry out reasonable maintenance, but a minor lapse does not automatically cancel the whole guarantee.
Sweep regularly, remove organic matter, keep drainage clear, clean spills promptly and use products suitable for resin.

Jointing sand is a serviceable component. Pressure washing can remove it and occasional re-sanding is normal.
Five years' workmanship cover does not include free cleaning, re-sanding or resealing for five years.
Tarmac naturally changes appearance. Gradual colour fading, minor tyre scuffing and cosmetic wear are not automatically defects.
Cleaning improves an existing surface; it does not rebuild its foundations or remove every historic mark.
Where we identify structural failure before cleaning, the quotation should record it. The 12-month cover concerns identifiable application workmanship, not the old structure.
Separate protection
Some products may carry their own manufacturer's warranty. Any such warranty is separate from the Quantock Paving Ltd workmanship guarantee. Where Quantock supplied the materials, available manufacturer protection is additional and does not remove any legal responsibility Quantock Paving Ltd may have.
We do not describe our guarantee as manufacturer-backed, insurance-backed or independently backed unless a documented arrangement specifically applies.
Start date
The period normally runs from the practical completion date recorded on the final invoice or guarantee certificate. The written commercial guarantee is issued once the agreed contract account has been settled in full.
This payment condition concerns the additional Quantock commercial guarantee. It does not remove statutory rights relating to the contract or work performed, and it does not prevent a customer raising a genuine final-account dispute.
Guarantee claim process
Tell us within a reasonable period after noticing a problem and take sensible steps to prevent avoidable further damage. We will assess the cause against the agreed work, evidence and applicable guarantee.
Send your name, installation address, quotation or invoice number if available, a description, when you first noticed it, and useful photographs or video.
We review the information and may ask questions or request additional photographs.
Where reasonably required, we arrange to inspect the installation and affected area.
We assess whether the evidence indicates covered workmanship, a product issue, normal maintenance, external damage, inherited construction movement or another cause. Our assessment is evidence-based and is not described as final or conclusive of legal rights.
Where a qualifying defect is confirmed, our normal first remedy under the guarantee is to repair, reinstate or re-perform the affected work as reasonably necessary. Statutory remedies remain unaffected.
If you believe there may be a guarantee issue, give Quantock Paving Ltd a reasonable opportunity to inspect it before instructing another contractor. Unauthorised alterations can obscure the original cause; damage caused or materially worsened by them is not covered.
Reasonable emergency measures for safety or to prevent further damage are not prohibited, and unrelated third-party work does not automatically void cover elsewhere.
Unless expressly agreed otherwise, remedial work does not restart or extend the original 10, 5, 3, 2 or 1-year period. A 10-year installation repaired in year six remains covered until its original ten-year expiry date.
The commercial guarantee is issued to the original contracting customer for the property on the certificate. It is not automatically transferable on a sale. Quantock may agree a written transfer of the remaining term after a request and, where appropriate, an inspection. Transfer never restarts or extends the original period. This concerns voluntary commercial cover only.
Damage caused by later extensions, walls, posts, drainage work, utility trenches, landscaping, excavation, planting, service ducts, heavy structures, drilling or cutting is outside cover. Unaffected areas remain covered unless the alteration materially affects them.
This page primarily explains our standard voluntary guarantee for domestic customers. Commercial installations, developments, landlord work and other business-to-business projects may use project-specific specifications and contractual guarantee terms.
Planning, drainage and approvals
We can give practical advice on drainage and installation requirements. Planning permission, dropped-kerb or highways approval, utility or freeholder consent, restrictive covenants and neighbour agreements remain separate matters unless we specifically agree in writing to obtain or manage them.
We cannot guarantee a local authority or third party will approve an application. Where Quantock expressly agrees to manage an approval process, responsibility for that agreed service remains ours.
Samples and photographs
Samples, photographs, screens and brochures show the general appearance of a product. Natural aggregate, natural stone and manufactured paving can vary by piece and batch. This does not permit substitution of a completely different product: the agreed product, range and specification must still be supplied unless a change is agreed with the customer.
What counts as a defect?
A material installation failure attributable to how Quantock carried out the agreed work.
Expected variation, ageing, weathering or maintenance associated with an outdoor paving product.
Damage or movement originating outside the part of the installation Quantock controlled.
A later change of mind about an approved colour, aggregate, pattern or finish. The agreed specification must still be installed.
Important consumer protection
Our workmanship guarantee gives customers additional protection. It does not replace or reduce rights provided by UK consumer law.
Consumer services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill. The commercial guarantee limits described on this page do not allow Quantock Paving Ltdto avoid responsibility for defective work where the law makes Quantock responsible, and they do not make the guarantee a customer's only remedy.

We will make reasonable efforts to obtain a suitable match but cannot guarantee an invisible match because existing materials weather, batches change and product ranges can be discontinued.
Installation defects in drainage work carried out by Quantock can be covered. Blocked drains, overloaded public drainage, extreme rainfall, saturated ground and later alterations are not workmanship failures.
Please normally give Quantock a reasonable opportunity to inspect and rectify a suspected defect before instructing another contractor, except where urgent action is reasonably required for safety or to prevent further damage.
Not automatically. Transfer of the remaining commercial guarantee requires written agreement from Quantock and does not restart or extend the original period.
No. The Quantock workmanship guarantee is additional to statutory rights. It does not remove responsibility for defective work where UK consumer law makes Quantock responsible.
Projects contracted before the effective date remain subject to the guarantee and contractual terms applicable when that project was agreed.
