Resin bound patio - Burnham-on-Sea
Burnham-on-Sea New Palazzo resin patio
This Burnham-on-Sea garden patio was prepared with an MOT Type 1 base and permeable concrete before being finished in New Palazzo resin bound aggregate. The work created a clean, free-draining patio surface between the sleeper edging, planted borders, gravel paths and timber posts.
Project summary

- Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset
- Surface
- New Palazzo resin bound patio
- Existing area
- Prepared garden patio area with gravel surrounds
- Preparation
- MOT Type 1 base and permeable concrete
- Finish
- New Palazzo resin bound aggregate
- Detail
- Finished around sleeper edging, planted borders and timber posts
Challenges
- The garden patio area sat between sleeper edging, gravel areas, planted borders and timber posts, so the levels and edges needed careful setting out.
- A resin bound finish needs a stable, free-draining base, so the patio could not simply be surfaced over loose or uneven material.
- The final New Palazzo surface had to be laid neatly around the curved planted border, posts and retained edging without disturbing the surrounding garden.
Solution
- Prepared and compacted the MOT Type 1 base across the patio footprint before checking the levels against the surrounding gravel, sleepers and planting.
- Installed a permeable concrete base to create a stable, free-draining platform for the resin bound surface.
- Brought the New Palazzo aggregate and resin materials to site, mixed the resin bound material and barrowed it into the patio area.
- Hand finished the New Palazzo resin bound surface around the borders, posts and edges to create a clean continuous patio finish.
Why resin worked well for this Burnham-on-Sea patio
Resin bound surfacing suited this Burnham-on-Sea garden because it could be finished cleanly around the curved planted borders, sleeper edging and timber posts.
The permeable concrete base gives the finished patio a free-draining structure, which matters on Somerset coastal properties where standing water can quickly make garden surfaces awkward.
For local patios and garden paths, resin can be a practical way to replace loose gravel or unfinished base areas with a smoother surface that still keeps the landscaped feel of the garden.
